Element's Weddings Ring
Choose your preferred wedding band shape; something smooth and comfortable like a court shape, or a slim flat band, or perhaps a wedding band shaped to fit snugly against an engagement ring. Once you are happy with your wedding ring shape then it’s a good idea to work out which precious metal you prefer.
Here’s a quick guide to the most popular precious metals you’ll need to consider when choosing your wedding rings.
Platinum Wedding Rings
Platinum is the purest and most precious metal, it is also the hardest and won’t wear away over time. This exquisite metal is 30 times rarer than gold, and about 30% more expensive when used for your wedding ring.
Gold Wedding Rings
Pure gold is absolutely beautiful, but unfortunately it’s pretty soft and if you want your wedding ring to last a lifetime then the gold needs to be alloyed to make it harder and more durable.
That’s where 18 carat white and 18 carat yellow gold come in to play when choosing your wedding ring. White gold has a deep smoky lustre, it’s not as hard as Platinum and is usually plated with a thin layer of Rhodium to maintain its smouldering looks (just right for your wedding ring). The same applies to 18 carat yellow gold with its enchanting sunset hews.
If you have a strict budget for your wedding rings then 9 carat white and yellow gold are worth considering. Most jewellers dislike working with this precious metal, and it’s worth knowing that there is actually more copper and silver in the mix than there is gold with 9 carat yellow or white gold. 9ct is an okay option for any dress jewellery, but we urge you to consider purity over price when it comes to your wedding ring.
Titanium Wedding Rings
If you prefer something a little different for your wedding ring then why not take a look at titanium. This new-to-jewellery metal has an urban smoky grey lustre; it’s as hard as nails, and it’s very light and easy to wear. It really is the perfect wedding ring option for those of you who have manual professions.
Matching your wedding ring
Some wedding rings can overpower the engagement ring and may not complement each other when worn together.
Element have a ‘Contour’ collection of contoured wedding rings that are designed specifically to sit snugly against your engagement ring. The contour wedding ring collection is available in platinum, 18ct white gold and 18ct yellow gold.
