Element's Engagement Rings
If you are considering dropping to your knees and popping the question, it makes sense to be ready with the engagement ring you know your partner wants. The pressure to get it right can be too much to bear; some say three months wages should just about cover the cost of the engagement ring; others would be happy to push the ring pull of a coke can on their loved ones finger. Whatever floats your boat, we’d encourage you to take the whole engagement ring journey and make it your own!
Deciding on the diamond shape and setting for your engagement ring
You may prefer a classic solitaire engagement ring, in which case the first thing to do is choose a setting that you really like. The setting is the part that holds the diamond in its rightful place within the engagement ring and is made to fit the size and shape of the diamond you choose. The two traditional types of settings for an engagement ring are prong or bezel settings. A more contemporary engagement ring setting is the Niessing Tension setting, which we are proud to stock at Element Jewellery.

The choice of diamond shapes is endless, but at Element we prefer the classic diamond shapes for engagement rings, such as round brilliant cut or square princess cut, as these really do lend themselves to far better contemporary engagement ring designs. A diamond engagement ring setting is typically stronger the more claws or prongs it is held with. Having said that, the Niessing engagement ring tension setting is a true feat of jewellery design and engineering, where the diamond is unbelievably securely held in a tension setting.
If you’re certain you’d like a diamond in your engagement ring, we always recommend opting for quality over size. A diamonds truest fascination is its sparkle, and a slightly smaller better clarity diamond will outshine a larger less clear diamond all day long!
Thinking about the style of the engagement ring
To make things a little simpler for you, we’ve enjoyed spending the last two years developing a succinct and inspiring range of contemporary engagement rings. And we’ve been sure to source collections of engagement rings that will suit everyone’s budget.
Among the exclusive engagement ring designs on offer at Element are rings by Niessing, including the iconic Tension Engagement Ring designed for the upmarket brand by artist Walter Wittek in 1979 in which a brilliant-cut diamond is pinioned between a band of platinum and gold so that it seems to float weightlessly in space.
Local designer Catherine Woodall proves that it’s not only diamonds that are a girl’s best friend with her simple, fine and delicate engagement rings, from aquamarine and amethyst to tourmaline and turquoise, for a truly personal statement of style in silver, white or yellow gold.

For old school romance, James Newman’s engagement rings, offers swoon-inducing diamond sparklers that are exquisite in their craftsmanship.
Element Jewellery also stock a further three other contemporary designer engagement ring ranges, from three of the UK more established and revered jewellers; Shona Carnegie, Amanda Doughty, and Fresh. These offer contemporary engagement rings at the cutting edge of design.

Advice from Element in choosing your engagement ring
Choosing an engagement ring, whether for yourself or your loved one, it is undoubtedly an emotional event, for a purchase that will last a lifetime. We believe that regardless of your budget, your most important considerations should be quality and style.
The Element of surprise
If your engagement plans are not a surprise then your partner will most probably have a clear idea of the perfect engagement ring, so perhaps its best to choose the engagement ring together.
If you are planning a surprise engagement ring, you should do some clandestine research. Pay close attention to your partner’s jewellery and notice if they like to wear white gold or yellow gold, and pick up on the style of jewellery they like to wear: Hip Hop bling or contemporary jewellery with a more delicate touch. If your undercover engagement ring operations are proving to be harder than you think, asking close friends for advice always works. Although covertness may not be your style, it really is worth all the effort as the engagement ring is a once in a lifetime decision.
Determine your engagement ring budget
One of the first things you should do before beginning your engagement ring research is to determine your engagement ring budget. This will help you eliminate those out of reach diamonds, and will make your choosing a little easier.
